Auditions for our 15th summer season!

We will be having our season auditions on January 22nd and 23rd.  We are excited to bring together a great team to create a new production adapted from Bellini’s Il Capuletti e I Montecchi.

These auditions are in partnership with Skylark Opera and their upcoming production of Three Decembers. Artistic leadership from both companies will be present. Accompanist provided

January 22nd – 7:00-9:20 pm and January 23rd – 6:00-9:20 pm

at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church,

1465 North Victoria Street, St. Paul, MN 55117

We are casting TWO productions.

Skylark Opera’s production of Three Decembers (May 2023) at the Jungle Theatre.

Mixed Precipitation’s Pickup Truck Opera: Volume 3 – The Capulets and the Montagues (August and September 2023, touring Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro)

Read below for details about each.

What to prepare: Mixed Precipitation’s production will be performed in the original Italian alongside popular American singing styles. Skylark’s production is a contemporary opera in English.

Please bring two selections, one operatic aria in Italian or English and one American musical theatre selection (golden age, Sondheim, or Weill). Accompanist provided.

If you are unable to attend auditions in person, video submissions are welcome. Please send video links and resume in an e-mail to mixedprecipitation@gmail.com and backstage@skylark.org

Both Mixed Precipitation and Skylark are interested in challenging the classical music world and presenting accessible performances that reflect our times.  With this in mind, please present yourself as you feel most comfortable and confident at the audition.  Do not wear a tux or a recital gown (unless that’s your preference).

Mixed Precipitation’s opera extravaganza returns for its 15th summer tour.  This year we are creating an adaptation of Bellini’s opera, I Capuleti e I Montecchi.  (PIckup Truck Opera: Volume 3 – The Capulets and the Montagues)

Music Director Gary Ruschman, Stage Director Tara Moses, Producing Artistic Director Scotty Reynolds, Anti-Oppression and Wellness Facilitator Akiko Ostlund.

We are casting five performers. We have a particular need for performers who play instruments and those who thrive in a creative, generative rehearsal process.  Performers who love working and creating outdoors are a good fit for our performance.

Rehearsal: Three weeks of rehearsal, evenings and Saturday afternoons, outdoors. The anticipated schedule is three weeks in July, no more than 26 hours per week.  Child care provided at rehearsal.

Performances: 5 weeks in August and September, including performances on the Twin cities metro, North Shore, Iron Range, and SE Minnesota. Most performances are Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. No performance on Labor Day.

Compensation: The performer rate is $510 per week, with per diem, housing, and mileage provided while we are outside of the metro.  8-9 week contract, some roles will be double cast

All performers and team members will agree to Mixed Precipitation’s Community Culture Agreement.  This document describes our commitment to creating inclusive, supportive, and proactively safe spaces for collaborators, audience members, staff, and volunteers. The document is available at this link.
